#ootd // Versace is the word
I recently started a little write-up regarding the rise of almost forgotten, or let’s rather say, gone dusty luxury brands. The piece was called “The return of Versace” and started off like this:
“Let’s go back tot he 90ies, when Gianni Versace was at the top of his game and Donatella joined in on becoming one of the most sought after designers the fashion world had been craving for. Metallic pieces, print items, a dash of colour and the iconic Medusa were all that Versace stood for. Versace fashion was fun and foremost fashion forward. Think of Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and generally everyone in the fashion world wearing Versace.”
I left this, well, intro for a proper piece of writing sitting there for weeks but it feels like now is the time to talk Versace! With the likes of Gucci back up at the top of it’s game (thanks to Alessandro Michele!), it’s time for the oldie but goldie Versace to step up their game too. I have always been a fan of the brand’s quirky and loaded prints that remind me of Italian grandeur and old women from Miami wearing humungous print blouses and chunky pearl chains around their necks not to mention the XXL-gold rings that grace their fingers! That look is exactly why, years ago, I invested in a couple of items that are very Versace (not the real deal but rather thrifty buys). Now it’s up to you how to style your favourite print piece but it works with everything simple from skinny pants to skirts and even leather! Simply go easy on the jewellery (you don’t reeeally wanna look like the Miami ladies, do ya?). This way Versace-style prints go from tacky to cool and into your wardrobe as the perfect item to wear on an everyday basis…and it’s only a matter of time until everyone will be wearing Versace again – until then, I suggest you get your hands on similar but less pricey prints!
